He’s a Starr! Ringo Starr was born Richard Starkey on July 7, 1940. He was in a number of semi-successful London bands before taking over on drums for The Beatles in 1962, when Pete Best left the group. In addition to holding down the rhythm section, Ringo sings on some of The Beatles most iconic tracks, including “Yellow Submarine” and “With a Little Help from My Friends”. He also wrote and sang the songs “Don’t Pass Me By” and “Octopus’s Garden”. He embarked on a solo career after the group disbanded in 1970 and has continued touring since.
As for his personal life, Ringo has been married twice, first to Maureen Starkey Tigrett from 1965 to 1975, and then to Barbara Bach, who he’s been with since 1981. He is a father of three.
Here, Ringo Starr poses for a portrait in New York on Jun. 13, 2016. He was on a U.S. tour with his All-Starr band at the time.
